My only confliction with this documentary is that I don’t understand why they demonise the tourist industry throughout it. Throughout this film, the narrator is illustrating how tourists have a lack of compassion towards the less fortunate population on the island and how we neglect to concern ourselves with their problems. Though this may be true to a certain extent, I don’t see how it is an appropriate topic to bring up in a movie about debt and economics, seeing as how tourism is the largest source of revenue and is responsible for ¼ of jobs in Jamaica. I understand that the reason for this poor economy situation is a result of the oppression brought on by other countries, but I don’t see how that justifies generalizing all tourists that go there as insensitive rich people who are somehow contributing to the problem, because if anything, they’re helping.
