  1. I'm actually presenting this to the class as my hot topic on the 21st! However, since I've done a substantial amount of research about it, I've come to the conclusion that this wasn't about being discriminatory, however I do believe that Harper's decision was biased. Recently Iranian governments were interested in re-vamping trade among Asia, which is one of the most power-hungry countries and if Asia accepted, Iran wouldn't have indulged in western trade as much as they had previously. I feel like Canada's decision to completely abandon Iran was silly, I agree that drastic measures needed to be put into place but by revoking any and all ties will only worsen the mix. I believe that some form of communication needed to remain. I do not think it's fair that we've grouped together the stereotypical "terrorist" and now must punish all Iranian's for the wrongdoing of a handful of them. The 17 Iranian diplomats who have been suspended and now must flee seems extreme to me. Where is any fresh evidence that these diplomats were plotting against the country? They are no hard facts indicating that these buisness men and woman were infiltrating the system whatsoever. And all the students here on visa's will not be able to renew them, forcing these people back to a life they fled. As a peacekeeping nation, why aren't we there implementing support groups and aid to those in danger? Abandoning the issue will only result in a much larger one. Yes, John Baird announced several reasons why Canada made the decision it did, but we as Canadians, as well as the rest of the globe knew such things 33 years ago, so why now do we take action? What information are we missing? I'm definitely worried about the future of our foreign policy.
